In 1931, Mr. Dowler drove the school bus. He is shown on the far right with many of his passengers.
Notice how small the bus was.
In 1936-37, Hixson High was built. This building is still being used along with the "South Gym" and the auditorium. Originally, grades 9-12 moved into this building, while grades 1-8 used the building that was built in 1908. Which was located behind the current school.
With increased employment in the area by TVA and DuPont, the Hixson Community grew and the school once again was crowded. In 1957, the school was added on to again including two classrooms, library and the first seperate cafeteria.
In 1961, Hixson Elementary was built a short distance from the school. This allowed grades 7-12 to occupy the building, freeing up space. In 1966, Hixson High School was built at its currrent location, thus creating a seperate Hixson Junior High.
This picture was taken in 1974, after the addition of the "North Gym". The original building of 1908 was torn down in 1971.
